’’Tomlin’s Gentleman’s Hairdressers (1988-2004)’’ is a photo installation by Søren Drastrup. Different hairstyles and looks where developed by Violette in collaboration with Tom Esam, to create different identities of one and only person : Tom himself. The work references the old, faded black and white photographs that hang in the British barber shops, which Tom visited as a child and young adult. The title relates to the small barbershop where he had his hair cut as a child, at an age before his identify had began to form in any developed sense. The work is a continuation of Tom Esam’s investigation in to Imagology, the Society of the Spectacle and self-image.
